2 bodies retrieved from tunnelLucena City, Quezon — There are now two bodies retrieved from the flooded tunnel in Gen. Nakar, where seven workers were trapped last Saturday following the collapse of the cofferdam that was supposed to protect their construction site from water from the Sumag River. Last Monday, information received by the PDRRMC from the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), proponent of the P717-million tunnel project, said that one of the workers – Salvador Pacling – was rescued, but another worker had drowned. Buzar said the body of David Guiagui Jr. – one of the workers reported trapped in the tunnel – was retrieved later on Monday. As of press time yesterday, the search and rescue operation continued for workers Roland Sanchez, Danny Harnois, and Ferdie Sanadan believed still trapped in the submerged tunnel. Buzar said the workers were all hired by Cavdeal International Construction, a major contractor of MWSS for the project which is based in Cavite.
