The national capital remained under tight security with Delhi Police deploying over 30,000 personnel and monitoring every movement with AI-enabled cameras, smart glasses and multi-layered security, as the country celebrated its 77th Republic Day on Monday (January 26, 2026). Speaking to The Hindu, Additional Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahla said that at least 10,000 police personnel were stationed in the New Delhi district alone, which included the ceremonial parade route and several high security zones. Strict vigilance had been stepped up at high footfall locations such as markets, bus terminals, metro stations and railway stations across the city, with multiple officers manning metro station gates.
