The DepEd said the number represents 99 percent of those who registered for the same grade levels last year. A total of 1,554,556 of the registrants are incoming Grade 1 students; Grade 7, 1,143,193; kindergarten, 991,689, and Grade 11 (867,997). Incoming Grade 2 to 6, 8 to 10 and 12 students are considered pre-registered and do not need to participate in the early registration process. The early registration for incoming kindergarten, Grades 1, 7 and 11 students is conducted every year to help DepEd and the schools prepare for the incoming school year. With restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, DepEd adopted various early registration mechanisms, such as the use of social media, text messages and drop-boxes in schools or barangays.
