The contesting ex-CCCI presidents are: incumbent lawmaker MA Latif, former commerce minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, state minister for land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed, former state minister for the environment Jafrul Islam Chowdhury and former lawmaker Sarwar Jamal Nizam. Similar to Chittagong11 constituency, two ex-CCCI presidents- Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed and Sarwar Jamal Nizam joined the electoral race with boat and paddy sheaf symbols respectively. After his death, his son Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed was elected from the same constituency in a by-election in 2013. Jafrul Islam Chowdhury is contesting with the symbol sheaf of paddy from the Chittagong 16 constituency. However, sidestepping the decision of Oikya Jote and the grand alliance, Jamaat leader Jahirul Islam and JaPa leader Mahmudul Islam have also entered the electoral fray.
