70% doctors, medical staff off-duty at SBMCH

The Eid holidays have brought great worries for the patients at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) as 70% of its doctors and other medical staffs will remain off-duty in that period. Hospital sources said only 26 non-Muslim doctors out of their 161 doctors along with 21 intern doctors will be attending the patients during the Eid-ul-Fitre holidays. Moreover, only 278 out of 728 staff nurses will be on duty to take care of about 1,300 patients currently admitted at the hospital. Patients and their relatives are afraid the absence of such a huge number of medical staffs might create difficulties in the treatment. SBMCH Director Dr SM Sirajul Islam, however, explained that healthcare will not be hampered during the holidays because round-the-clock services will be ensured with the remaining doctors and staffs through a special roster.
