American Airlines has filed for a preliminary injunction to halt what it claims is an illegal slowdown by its mechanics. They are represented by a joint association of two unions, the International Association of Machinists and the Transport Workers union. They formed a joint association to negotiate joint contracts for the approximately 31,000 workers, who are covered by a dozen separate contracts. In an interview, TWU President John Samuelsen, who leads the joint association, said there is no slowdown. “This is about American’s effort to send blue collar jobs to South America," he said.
