Angry Protesters in Addis Ababa Condemn Mob Violence, Demand JusticeBy Staff ReporterSeptember 17, 2018 - Thousands of angry protesters voiced alarm with increasing insecurity on the outskirt of Addis Ababa after some of their relatives were killed and wounded perpetrated by what they referred to as “ethnic Oromo youth” or “Qerro”. Ethnic based attacks continue to spread in towns of Oromia states surrounding the capital, Addis Ababa, including in Menagesha and Burayu, Kara and Sebeta towns where thousands of residents fled in different directions. The attack also occurred in Ashewa Meda, Chereta and Berchiko, Anfo Meda and other vicinities of the capital, Addis Ababa. The perpetrators have been committing the attack mainly against members of ethnic Dorze, Hadiya and Siltie who live in the peripheral areas of Addis Ababa for which the perpetrators claim ownership. Deputy Mayor of the Addis Ababa City government Takele Uma early in a briefing said peace has prevailed in the peripheral areas of Addis Ababa, which the protesters gravely denounced.
