Anti-rabbies vaccination order for dogs in five Serian villages - Nation

KUCHING: An anti-rabies vaccination order has been issued for all dogs in five villages in Serian, Sarawak where there is an outbreak of the disease. Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the order also covered dogs in the surveillance area within a 10km radius of the affected villages, which are Kampung Krait, Kampung Paon Rimu, Kampung Paon Sungai Rimu Bakung, Kampung Remun and Kampung Lebur. "We are sending our vaccination teams today to carry out the vaccinations, initially inside the infected zone and thereafter in the areas within the surveillance zone. Uggah said the outbreak was contained within the five villages, which have been gazetted as rabies-infected areas under Section 37 of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance. He said the surveillance area was limited to a 10km radius as rabies-infected dogs usually died within three to nine days and their movement was limited.
