Apollo Hospital begins brain stroke treatment in record 42 minutes

Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, set a benchmark by starting treatment of acute brain stroke patient in just 42 minutes a few days ago. Dr Narendra Trivedi, CEO, Apollo Hospital, said, “The doctors at the hospital thrombolysed the patient with ischemic arterial stroke of the brain in just 42 minutes, creating a world record. The hospital set a new benchmark of starting treatment of brain stroke patient in such a short time.”Thrombolysis is a process under which brain stroke patients are administered tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) to dissolve arterial blood clots. When this happens, brain cells are deprived of oxygen and begin to die. When brain cells die during a stroke, abilities controlled by that area of the brain such as memory and muscle control are lost.
