Fortnite Credit: Epic GamesAfter removing Fortnite from the App Store for allowing players to make purchases direct from developer Epic Games, Apple has now escalated its fight. The company has threatened to remove Epic Games the Apple Developer program, effectively cutting it off from development on iOS and Mac, if Epic does not capitulate by August 28. When Epic gave users of its app Fortnite a choice of how they wanted to make purchases, Apple retaliated by removing Fortnite from its App Store. Not content simply to remove Fortnite from the App Store, Apple is attacking Epic’s entire business in unrelated areas. We’re still trying to understand the full potential impacts here, but removing Epic from the Apple Developer program could cause problems not just for Epic, but for any developer that uses Unreal.
