The popular fan fiction page Archive of Our Own, also known as AO3, recently fell victim to an apparent cyberattack. However, the website has now mostly recovered from the attack, with a few lingering outages and issues as AO3 works to repair the damage. As of July, AO3 has amassed at least 5.9 million users. Many of these users are fan fiction writers, who passionately create unofficial stories based on popular works of fiction and even real-life celebrities. The group, previously involved in cyberattacks against organizations like Microsoft, demanded a ransom of $30,000 to cease their attack on AO3.
