Ms King was initially hesitant to stand down, saying questions about the role were "ageist" and questioning what Ms Ardern could offer that she did not. Mr Little said Ardern was elected deputy with unanimous support from MPs. Ms Ardern said she did not believe she would overtake Mr Little as preferred PM.
