The appointment was announced in a circular issued by the defence ministry on Sunday. The government appointed Aurangzeb as navy chief until July 25, 2020. In another notice, the defence ministry said it approved Admiral Nizamuddin’s post-retirement leave. Aurangzeb, born on Sep 28, 1959, was commissioned in the Bangladesh Navy in 1980, two years after he joined the force. Aurangzeb, who is fluent in German and French, has undergone professional courses in Bangladesh and abroad.
