Australian professor weighs in on Sri Lanka’s proposed education reforms View(s):Australian professor of linguistics Luke William Harding, chairman of the committee for reviewing the evaluation and assessment process under the new education reforms, met with Prime Minister and Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya this week. Professor Harding, a Professor of Applied Linguistics at Lancaster University (UK), was in Sri Lanka from March 20 to 25 to engage in a series of meetings regarding the proposed assessment framework. He held policy discussions and workshops with members of the Digital Task Force, the Evaluation and Assessment Committee, the Department of Examinations, the Academic Advisory Board of the National Institute of Education, and the National Education Commission. Professor Harding and Prime Minister Amarasuriya discussed the new assessment process aligned with international standards to be introduced under the module-based education system set for Grade 6. The discussion was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the Deputy Minister, Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa, Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Liyanage, and members of the Education Reform Evaluation Committee.
