The death of such an elderly political leader of Awami League in Chittagong district cast a pall of gloom in political, cultural and social arenasin the city and elsewhere in the district. The Awami League leader suffered severe torture in jail by the Mostaque government when he protested the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members on August 15, 1975. Nurul Alam Chowdhury will be buried at the Motiur Rahman Primary School groundsin Fatikchhari with full state honours after the third janaza. AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, in a separate message, also mourned the death of Nurul Alam Chowdhury.
