BJMP records first COVID-19 death in Angeles City


CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A 65-year-old male inmate at the Angeles City Jail has become the first recorded coronavirus disease (COVID-19) fatality of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Central Luzon. The inmate died on August 15 and was described as immunocompromised, or someone who had a weak immune system. ADVERTISEMENTCol. Arnel Gongona, BJMP regional director, said the jail was disinfected, and contract tracing procedures were undertaken. Detainees and BJMP personnel who showed flu-like symptoms were isolated and quarantined, he said in a statement on Saturday. Angeles City has logged 219 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of August 21.
