According to the results, Baba Jamal garnered about 10,803 votes, representing 63.33% of the total votes cast. The Ayawaso East by-election was necessitated by the demise of the NDC Member of Parliament (MP), Naser Toure Mahama. Five men — NDC’s Baba Jamal, NPP’s Baba Ali Yussif, Ibrahim Iddrisu of the Liberal People’s Party (LPP), as well as independent candidates Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda and David Kannor — contested in the March 3, 2026, by-election. The Ayawaso East Constituency has been in existence since the creation of the Fourth Republic, which implies that the constituency has had nine parliamentary elections.
