BAGUIO CITY: Now comes the hard part of collecting payment for a total of P20 million in loans to micro and small enterprises (MSEs) from the Baguio city government. Micro and small enterprises from the tourism sector are among the businesses indebted, according to the city government. The sector is still heavily impacted by the pandemic amid ongoing efforts by the Tourism department and the city government to revive it. Last year alone, Mayor Benjamin "Benjie" Magalong said the local tourism industry suffered over a P3.5-billion loss in potential income from tourist arrivals. Three accommodation facilities have permanently closed while similar establishments have suffered tremendous losses, although their owners are still hoping for possible revival of local tourism.
