Battle of the Books in a film

Titled 'Battle of the Books - The Story of Colmcille and Sligo' has been launched as part of a year-long programme remembering the saint whose feast day is also on Wednesday. More popularly referred to as the "Battle of the Books", the battle was said to have resulted in the deaths of 3,000 men. "That said, the story of the Battle of the Books has been passed down through the centuries, so we wanted to portray this in the film," according to Michael Kirby of the Sligo Colmcille 1500 committee. "We hope that the film will go a long way in telling our local Colmcille story and sharing with a much wider audience." A Sligo County Council, Creative Ireland, Sligo Colmcille 2021 and Cos Cos Festival funded project, the 'Battle of the Books' will be screened on Sligo County Council, Sligo County Library and Sligo Colmcille Facebook pages at 8pm and will be available to view and share widely after that.
