Alex Blake hit the penultimate ball from Tom Curran for six to give Kent a one-wicket victory over Surrey with one ball remaining as the Royal London One-Day Cup — the much-maligned 50-over competition — exploded into life yesterday. There was another thrilling finish at the Ageas Bowl, where Hampshire piled up Surrey, last year’s beaten finalists, seemed to have the match won when Kent, chasing 256, subsided to 226 for eight but Blake struck an unbeaten 66 off 62 balls and James Tredwell joined him in a stand of 28 before he was run out with two needed off two balls.
