The John Gibbons era will be over at the end of this season. The Toronto Blue Jays announced Wednesday afternoon the veteran manager won’t be back next year, ending months of speculation and rumours about his status. The official announcement came just hours before the Jays’ home finale against the Houston Astros. John Gibbons has managed the Blue Jays in two stints, for the bulk of 11 seaons. Known as a player’s manager, Gibbons skippered the Jays to memorable post-season runs in 2015 and 2016, both of which ended in losses in the American League Championship Series.
