Toronto police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Regent Park Tuesday afternoon as Mackai Bishop Jackson, a teen who loved basketball who days earlier celebrated his 15th birthday. Caroline de Kloet said the shooting occurred “inside of the apartment building” at 230 Sackville St., near Dundas St. E. Paramedics pronounced Jackson dead at the scene. At the memorial, Kankonda said Jackson loved sports, and would often spend his afternoons playing basketball at a nearby park or the Regent Park Community Centre, which is also on Sackville St., about a block south of where Jackson was shot dead. Sureya Ibrahim, another resident and community organizer, said the city should “immediately” open the community centre to help get kids off the streets. Toronto Community Housing is “helping with the investigation, but all information at this stage is being released by Toronto Police Services,” spokesperson Daniele Gauvin said.
