Chinese universities are actively promoting opportunities in Viet Nam, and the number of Vietnamese students studying in China has grown sharply in recent years. Data from the Chinese Embassy in Viet Nam indicated that there were 23,500 Vietnamese students studying in China in 2023, doubling the number in 2020. It was also noted that 146,000 Chinese proficiency test (HSK) was taken by Vietnamese students, leading globally in 2025. Meanwhile, South Korea has surpassed 310,000 foreign students for the first time, with Vietnamese students forming the largest group—115,131, across all levels. Competition for recruitment of Vietnamese students is intensifying, with Vietnamese students increasingly choosing to study in East Asian study destinations.
