Britain contributed 12.6 per cent of the Development Assistance Committee’s overall spending last year PABritain contributed almost one dollar in every eight of overseas aid last year, according to a study of large developed nations’ spending. Britain was the third largest spender of 29 nations, with the United States in first place and Germany in second. The report into development spending abroad was released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) yesterday. Last year Britain contributed $18.01 billion (£14.4 billion) of the Development Assistance Committee’s (DAC) overall spending of $142.6 billion on international development, or 12.6 per cent. It was one of six countries, including Denmark, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden and Germany, to meet a United Nations target to keep overseas development assistance at or above 0.7 per cent of gross national income.
