Irman was accused of receiving a bribe in exchange for a recommendation letter to the Central Logistics Agency (Bulog) to provide sugar import quota to CV Semesta Berjaya in West Sumatra. Responding to the case, Head of Bulog Djarot Kusumayakti, said that both CV Semesta Berjaya and Irman have no involvement in determining Bulog's import quota. "[Irman and CV Berjaya semesta has nothing to do with imports," said Djarot. Regardless, Djarot denied that the partnership between Bulog and CV Semesta Berjaya was a result of Irman Gusman's recommendation. "Sugar vendors who wish to distribute Bulog’s sugar do not need a recommendation," Djarot said.
