The Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) department made its third arrest in a tax evasion case since the introduction of GST, on Wednesday. The Mumbai Central GST division on Wednesday arrested the owner of M/S Jinaam fashion world, Mumbai, for allegedly not filing returns and not paying any duty or tax for the past one year. According to GST officials, the accused is associated with manufacturing high-end ready-made garments in the city and has his own brand. Following this, GST officials conducted searches at two locations of the company from where they detected GST evasion of Rs 5 crore and dues of excise duty worth Rs 89 lakh. The arrest was approved by GST Commissioner Mumbai Central Dr KN Raghavan and executed by Additional Commissioner Manpreet Arora, Assistant Commissioner Anand Gokhle and Superintendent Sh.Pasrecha.
