RIO DE JANEIRO — The coach of triple sprint medallist Andre De Grasse ran ever so slightly out of his lane Saturday. It is never an easy situation: putting the medal you think is yours in the hands of Someone Up There watching a video. But Dunfee handled it with effortless grace, most admirably after the Japanese won the appeal of their walker’s disqualification, and Dunfee was relegated to fourth. “Yeah, I thought there was some gentle irony there, to end the day with getting a medal on an appeal,” he said. “When I think about winning an Olympic medal, it’s that jubilation, joy, just the coming together of everything we work for,” he said.
