Lawyers for a group of Australian Olympians have negotiated a two-year good behaviour bond and a $3,000 US per-person fine with the Brazilian police after their clients snuck into a sporting event on Friday night, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. The nine athletes, each charged with falsifying a document, altered their official Rio 2016 accreditation in order to gain entry into Australia’s semifinal men’s basketball game versus Serbia. The tamperers were detained by police for more than 10 hours overnight, then released. “A mistake was made this evening,” Fiona de Jong, the chief executive of the Australian Olympic Committee chief executive, told Australian media Friday night. The Morning Herald also reported local police are looking into Australian swimmer Josh Palmer and his brush with Rio’s dark side.
