Cases filed against 203 businesses for VAT evasion

The VAT Intelligence Unit after conducting a drive at a posh shopping mall in the port city found evidence of VAT evasion against these shops and thus filed cases against them. The rest 203 shops do not have VAT registration and they do not pay VAT. Acting on a tip off, the VAT Intelligence unit conducted a drive at the Mimi Super Market in the port city today and filed cases against those 203 shops for not having VAT registration and also for VAT evasion. Besides, some 50 out of those 60 shops which have VAT registration have been fined Taka 10,000 each for not displaying VAT registration certificates in their shop.
