Cassation court upholds life sentence against Badie, others in Adwa police station incidents’ case


CAIRO – 14 July 2020: Court of Cassation ruled Tuesday to uphold a life sentence against Mohamed Badie, the supreme guide of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood organization and others in the Adwa Caseafter all the submittedappeals were rejected. The case dates back to August 14, 2013, when a number of people gathered and stormed Adwa Police station in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Minya, carrying fire and bladed weapons, and deliberately killing two police personnel. They also destroyed the police station, police vehicles and official documents, setting them in fire. Furthermore, the defendants enabled 31 detainees to escape, and stole all weapons at the police station. The investigations revealed that 683 persons affiliated with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group were involved in these violent incidents.
