The Centre on Saturday announced some measures to financially help families who lost earning members to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). These measures are meant “to help families maintain a good standard of living” the government said in a statement. The Centre also liberalised and enhanced existing schemes to cover families of contractual and casual workers. The insurance scheme has also been liberalised to include in its purview the families of those who changed jobs in the 12 months preceding their death. Earlier, the deceased needed to be continuously employed in one establishment prior to their death for the insurance scheme to kick in.
