The government needs to harmonise its approach in tackling radicalisation, violent extremism and terror in the country, a human rights lobby group has said. Haki Africa on Thursday said the hard approach that some of the security agencies have adopted is largely ineffective. “Using the hard approach ends up recruiting more youth into radicalisation and extremism,” said Haki Africa deputy executive director Salma Hemed. The hard approach, she said, pushes more youth to crossing the border into Somalia. However, on Thursday, Hemed said using a hard approach to crime, especially ones involving terror, has never been effective.
