Boehly has sanctioned over £1billion on new signings since he bought the club from Abramovich in May 2022. The American has been desperate to match the spending of the Russian oligarch, whose 19-year reign came to an abrupt end shortly after he was sanctioned in relation to the Russian invasion on Ukraine in February 2022. Chelsea have an almost entirely new team from the one Abramovich left behind, with Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali aiming to create a team that would break the 100-point barrier in the Premier League. Man City are the only side to have ever racked up 100 points in a single Premier League campaign - reaching the threshold on the final day of the 2017-18 season. But reports suggest that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy are ‘continuously thinking’ about what that side might look like.
