The vigilante crime app Citizen falsely accused a California man of starting a wildfire, offering a $30,000 reward to track him down before retracting the post the next day, in a move that has been condemned by criminal justice experts. But that was not before the falsely accused man had his name and image widely shared. The photo of the falsely accused suspect remained on Citizen for more than 15 hours. It has also partnered with cities including Los Angeles to allow for contact tracing during the pandemic. The Los Angeles police department has now arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with the fire.
