From The Times, May 19, 1921:Mr Horace McNeil who was shot on Saturday night by masked men at his house in Bloemfontein Road, Shepherd’s Bush, died yesterday in the West London Hospital. Mr McNeil’s son-in-law is serving in the Royal Irish Constabulary, and this fact, with the general nature of the outrage, points to Sinn Fein as being responsible for the unfortunate man’s death. SponsoredTwelve men and four women are now detained for inquiries in connexion with the outrages in London on Saturday night. The police are naturally reticent about the precise steps they are taking. It is alleged that a number of threatening letters received by relatives of members of the Crown forces serving in Ireland have been submitted to the police authorities
