The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has announced that clinical officers will begin a nationwide strike at midnight on Monday, December 22. Further grievances include recognition of clinical officers under the Social Health Authority (SHA), the reinstatement of pre-authorisation rights for specialist clinicians, and the rollout of risk, housing, and commuter allowances. Clinical officers, who handle close to 99 per cent of outpatient care in Kenya, form the backbone of primary healthcare. Clinical interns will also join the strike, affecting training programmes and medical education across the country.
