Looks like Congress is poised to allocate $25 million for gun violence and safety research in this coming year. That was the year that funding for gun violence and safety research fell with a thud and stayed down for the count until this year. That’s despite the fact that acts of gun violence regularly make the nightly news across the country. While this may not sound like an outright ban on funding gun violence and safety research, it essentially made the CDC “gun-shy” about supporting practically any research related to gun violence. I say “seemingly” because there seems to a dearth of federally-funded research that has studied how much people are pushing for more federally-funded gun violence and safety research.
