A correctional officer was injured during a "disturbance" at Her Majesty's Penitentiary, the Department of Justice confirmed on Monday, despite initially telling CBC News there were no injuries during the Friday night incident. In an emailed statement on Monday, department media relations manager Eric Humber said a correctional officer "received minor injuries" and confirmed that no inmates were injured. The RNC declined a CBC News interview request, and deferred questions to the Department of Justice. The Department of Justice told CBC News the situation was de-escalated successfully, but did result in the prison being locked down overnight.
