He pointed the finger at the British variant, renamed Delta, as likely being at the origin of this spectacular increase in positive cases. This week, the Ministry of Health has begun to acknowledge the extent of new Covid-19 wave hitting Algeria. “The reassuring narrative of the authorities regarding the stability of the pandemic in Algeria has greatly contributed to seeing irresponsible behavior. The resumption of family gatherings, including wedding celebrations, have led to this dreadful third wave,” says an epidemiologist.
