Through bursaries and reduced fees, private schools “are increasingly widening access to lower-income families and disadvantaged children”, she adds. Despite all this help, including state subsidies, today only 1% of children (6,000 pupils) attending private schools receive a completely free education. “Only 4% of private school turnover is devoted to bursaries, and only 1% of private school pupils get to go for free.
