Irked over the delay in completion of underground drainage (UGD) works, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary Lanka Tejovathy has rapped on the knuckles of the Public Health Department and ordered contractors to re-carpet of roads and install within 15 days notice boards mentioning nature of works, deadlines and contact details of engineers. The Judge was hearing a petition filed by Guntur-based Lok Satta seeking the DLSA’s intervention in the delay of UGD works in the city and at adjoining villages. Judge Tejovathy said the works were substandard and taken up without proper supervision. The UGD scheme is designed to meet the challenge of sanitation in a city. However, the delay in works has meant that only 60 % of the work has been completed and not even a single STP has been set up.
