The Maharashtra government is on a mission to ensure that nutrition and not taste is the deciding factor when menu for children is designed. As per a government resolution, from now on food high in fat, salt and sugar content will be out of school canteens. Grains and vegetables are on top of the list of items the government is seeking to encourage. This means children are eating expensive food devoid of any calories. Doctors across the city are talking with alarm of the rise in the rates of childhood obesity and diabetes - all a fallout of years of children eating food high in sugar, salt and fats.
