The sentencing of Sergeant Alexander Blackman, the Royal Marine convicted of killing an injured Taliban fighter in Afghanistan, has been delayed by the court martial appeal court until next Tuesday. Blackman had been exposed to stress in “one of the most dangerous square miles on Earth”, Goldberg said. The Royal Marines “knew each step could be their last with the danger of loss of lower limbs and genitalia from IEDs [improvised explosive devices]”. As the insurgent’s body twitched, Blackman told him: “There you are, shuffle off this mortal coil, you cunt. Later, when details of the killing emerged, he claimed, the marine top brass tried to suppress the truth.
