The deadline to register to vote for this year’s local elections is closing in: tomorrow evening at midnight, registration will close on what is a significant year for many areas of the UK. Devolution is putting power in the hands of local people – helping communities take control of decisions that matter to them – with combined authority mayors accountable to the people they serve. In England there are six mayoral roles on the ballot for the first time in the Tees Valley, the West of England, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, Liverpool City Region and Greater Manchester.
