Marlins owner and CEO Jeffrey Loria, here congratulating Marcell Ozuna after an April 11 win, is reportedly selling to a group led by Derek Jeter and Jeb Bush. The fact Bush was now a failed Republican presidential candidate and Jeter a retired player hardly mattered. On Tuesday came reports that the Bush/Jeter group, indeed, had been tabbed to buy the Marlins from Jeffrey Loria. Bloomberg News first reported the sale, and the Miami Herald later reported the purchase price to be $1.3 billion. But assuming the financing is there, approval would not appear to be a major hurdle for Bush and Jeter, given their connections.
