So when the pandemic struck, Socso is suddenly saddled with the tasks of distributing wage subsidies and hiring incentives, and also managing Covid-19 screenings. If you comb through Socso’s Facebook page, you will see many comments from employers who have not received payments under the wage subsidy programme (PSU) for many months. What is the point of the oxygen (funds) when it arrives too late and the man has already died (company has closed down)?
