On this day, Lord Vishnu goes to sleep for a period of 4 months (Shravan, Bhadrapad, Ashwin and Kartik). It is believed that the devotees are blessed with a place in the abode of Lord Vishnu after the soul transcends. Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat KathaThere was a king named Raja Mahabali (the grandson of Bhakt Prahlad), who ruled the three worlds - the Devaloka, Prithviloka and Patalaloka. However, the Devas sought help from Lord Vishnu and appealed to him to curb Mahabali's powers after realising that he could become invincible. Lord Vishnu got pleased by the king's generosity and showered him with a boon, before sending Mahabali to Patalaloka.
