★★☆☆☆The title might be hard to explain to anyone under the age of 50. Even so, Frederick Knott’s 1952 stage thriller still has some life left in it. While Alfred Hitchcock’s screen version is no classic, Ray Milland and Grace Kelly sprinkled stardust on the script. Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow also starred in an underrated 1998 remake, entitled A Perfect Murder, which added a few clever twists of its own. Anthony Banks’s production, on the other hand, creaks along like a vintage car in need of a service.
