Diplomats Narrowly Avoid Failure At UN Climate Summit

Turkey objected to being classified as a “developed” country, making it ineligible for climate finance. That, climate campaigners complain, has made for a less-effective approach with very little in the way of “rules” at all. Diplomats anxiously watched the Yellow Vest protests in Paris, taking place at the same time as the summit in the very spot where the Paris Agreement was signed exactly three years ago. "We have reached a balanced deal on the rules to turn the Paris Agreement into action," said EU climate and energy commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete.
