Fourteen years after the conclusion of The Hobbit trilogy, director Peter Jackson has officially announced his return to J.R.R. Tolkien’s world with a new installment tentatively titled “The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past.”The project was revealed through a teaser video featuring Jackson and his creative team. Her mission is to uncover a hidden truth: why the War of the Ring was nearly lost before it even began. Production is slated to begin following the completion of “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum“, which Jackson is currently producing. The film, directed by and starring Andy Serkis as the titular creature, is scheduled for release between 2026 and 2027.
